Higher education is much like Hollywood. It is based on romance and illusions - how people want their lives to be - all the signifiers that grant us emotional response. It also has the brutal self-interest of business just as Hollywood does behind the palm trees, painted sets, CGI and Klieg lights. It knows exactly how much people will endure to claim their seat in this world. The only difference is no one second mortgages their home to buy a ticket to the movies.
Education is delivered in a completely foolish way in a deeply flawed marketplace to a largely delusional consumer base. Life support for D1 sports teams, bloated administrations and country club amenities. You do get what you pay for.
